Introducing the Digital Balozi, SASA Inclu-Cities Project: Empowering Youth to Bridge the Digital and Green Divide.

In today’s fast evolving world, digital inclusion and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. As we build smarter cities, we must also build greener ones. Through a powerful partnership with ENABEL under the SASA Inclu-Cities Projec, DOT Tanzania proudly introduces the Digital Balozi , a youth-led initiative that equips young leaders with digital, business, and green skills to create inclusive, climate-conscious communities.

At the core of this initiative are 10 Digital Balozi (Digital Ambassadors), passionate and dynamic youth from Tanga, Pemba, and Mwanza. These changemakers are driving digital transformation, promoting green innovation, and fostering inclusive development in their communities.

This project is made possible through a collaboration with ENABEL (Belgian Agency for International Cooperation) a program focused on advancing social inclusion, gender equity, and youth participation in urban development. ENABEL recognizes that youth are not just future leaders,they are today’s solution drivers.

By integrating digital and environmental skill-building, the Digital Balozi  SASA Inclu-Cities Project supports ENABLE’s mission to create sustainable, inclusive cities where young people thrive and lead.

A Holistic Approach: Digital + Green Skills for Community Impact

The Digital Balozi SASA Inclu-Cities Project is more than a training program; it is a movement that prepares young youth to be catalysts for both technological progress and environmental resilience. The 10 Digital Balozi will be trained in:

• Digital Literacy & Financial Inclusion: Building foundational skills in ICT, mobile money, e-commerce, and digital safety
• Business Development & Community Leadership: Supporting local entrepreneurs and building community-based solutions
• Green Skills & Environmental Conservation: Promoting eco-friendly practices such as waste management, sustainable digital use, and climate awareness.

These youth will  actively transfer their knowledge through localized training, workshops, and mentorship, particularly targeting women, youth, and informal sector actors in their regions.

Youth Leading Climate-Responsive Cities

In every community they serve, the Digital Balozi will also raise awareness on climate change, integrating green practices into their outreach, and championing sustainable development. From advocating for paperless solutions and responsible tech use to leading clean-up campaigns and eco-friendly activities, these youth are proving that digital change and environmental care can go hand in hand.

Their work reflects the urgent need to prepare communities not only for the digital economy but for the climate realities of tomorrow.

Once  their training is complete and field activities underway, the 10 Digital Balozi will lead the way towards a digitally connected, environmentally aware, and socially inclusive future. Their efforts align with the global call for green and digital transitions that leave no one behind.
