Mwajabu Galmos: Empowering Youth and Women through Digital Innovation

My journey with Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) began with a simple yet profound goal, to make a meaningful difference in the lives of youth, especially young women and girls, through digital empowerment. Little did I know that this passion would not only shape my career but also unlock incredible opportunities that have profoundly impacted my life and the communities I serve.

When I joined DOT in 2021 as a Community Leader in Tanzania, I was driven by a desire to share the knowledge and skills I had gained through the Youth Leadership Program from the Daring to Shift Project

Coming from a background in socio economic development and project management, I was acutely aware of the challenges young women face in accessing digital tools and opportunities. DOT gave me the perfect platform to address these barriers, providing training in digital business and equipping young women with the tools they needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital world.

Through my work with DOT, I had the privilege of training and mentoring 276 youth leaders, empowering them to harness digital technology for creating sustainable livelihoods. This experience was transformative, not only for the youth I mentored but also for me personally. Witnessing the resilience, creativity, and success of these young leaders inspired me deeply and strengthened my commitment to digital empowerment.

My time with DOT also seamlessly complimented my roles at organizations like MEMA Tanzania, where I led projects focused on youth economic initiatives. The skills I acquired from DOT helped me approach these roles with a deeper understanding of how digital tools can drive economic growth. The mentorship I provided was not just about imparting technical knowledge, it was about empowering individuals to take control of their futures and become agents of change in their communities.

In 2022, I was honored to receive DOT’s “Best Innovative and Creative Community Leader” award out of 50 community leaders. This recognition fueled my passion for digital empowerment even more. Another proud moment was being awarded the Digital Pioneer Award, which underscored the impact of my work in Tanzania’s digital sector. This accolade was not just a personal achievement but a collective recognition of the efforts made by everyone involved in these initiatives. It highlighted the critical role of digital literacy and reaffirmed my belief in technology as a powerful force for positive change.

My experience with DOT has been a cornerstone of my career in the digital sector. It has provided me with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to excel in this ever changing field. More importantly, it has allowed me to contribute to the digital empowerment of others, creating a ripple effect that continues to inspire change across communities.

As I reflect on my journey, I am deeply grateful for the opportunities DOT has given me. It has not only shaped my professional path but also reinforced my commitment to using digital technology as a catalyst for good. Moving forward, I am more determined than ever to continue this work, knowing that together we are building a digital future that is inclusive, empowering, and full of endless possibilities.
